Sources first, judgement second
At Use AI for X, a source check, hands-on experience and editorial opinion are three different kinds of information. We think readers should be able to tell them apart.
Official source checks
For features and plans we use the vendor’s product, help and pricing pages. The date of that check appears on every tool profile. When we cannot verify something, we do not fill the gap with a guess.
- 1SourceVendor’s own pricing, help and docs pages
- 2CheckEach claim matched to a page, line by line
- 3DateCheck date shown on the profile
- 4PublishOnly after editorial and technical checks
- 5CorrectReader reports and price changes reopen it
Hands-on testing
Claiming that we tested a tool requires a recorded task, input, plan, date and real output. Our current profiles are based on official source review. They are not hands-on performance tests, and we publish no scores.
Comparisons
A comparison table places intended use and verified plan details next to each other. It does not mean one tool is better at every task. If we ever run a performance comparison, its conditions and limits will be stated alongside it.
Freshness and corrections
Products change. Check the official page again before you subscribe. When information changes, the profile’s sources and its check date are updated together — we never move the date alone to look current. Recently added and re-checked profiles are listed on New AI tools.
Dates on a profile
Each checked detail keeps its own date. The badge at the top of a profile shows the range of those dates, and each section of the evidence summary shows when it was last checked. A new check of one detail does not refresh the date of the others.
Prices and calculations
Plan prices are published with the currency, billing period and seat basis shown on the official page, because the same plan can cost different amounts depending on region and billing choice. Usage examples (“How far does it go?”) are arithmetic from published allowances and are never presented as test results.
Commercial relationships
Updated 2 October 2026, effective 5 October 2026. Use AI for X is funded by advertising and paid listings. From 5 October 2026:
- Featured placements. Tool makers can pay for a featured spot on the home page, category pages, related profiles and task pages. Every paid spot is labeled “Sponsored”, its links carry
rel="sponsored", and it appears in addition to the editorial listings, never in place of them. - Expedited review. Makers can pay to have a submitted tool reviewed within two business days. Payment buys timing only: the profile goes through the same source checks, covers limits and weaknesses, and is not sent to the maker for approval before publishing.
- Sponsorships. One sponsor at a time may appear on the AI Pricing Index or in the weekly email, labeled “Sponsored”. Sponsors do not choose, edit or preview the data.
- What payment never changes. The facts on a profile, the sources we cite, check dates, comparisons and category pages. We do not sell scores, “verified” badges or reviews, and we publish no ratings.
- Affiliate links. From 14 October 2026 some links to tool makers’ sites are affiliate links: if you subscribe through one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Each of these links is marked “Affiliate link” and carries rel=”sponsored nofollow”, and the page says so before the first one. A commission never decides which tools we profile, what a profile says, its sources or check dates, or the order tools appear in; tools without an affiliate programme are covered the same way. Before 14 October 2026 no page carries an affiliate link.
Visitor reviews, where shown, are submitted by readers, checked by an editor before publishing, labeled as visitor opinion and kept separate from our source checks. Advertising enquiries: Advertise with us.
How tools are added
The editor chooses which tools to profile, based on the tasks readers use the directory for. Makers and users can also submit a tool; submitting is free; an optional paid expedited review shortens the wait but doesn’t guarantee a profile. A submitted tool goes through the same source checks as any other, and the submitter cannot edit or approve the profile.
Editorial responsibility
Profiles, comparisons and category pages are researched, written and corrected by Elias Brandt, the pen name of the site’s editor.
Report a correction
Email [email protected] with the page URL, the detail that needs correcting and any supporting sources. Elias Brandt reviews correction reports against the available evidence and updating the affected content and source notes.
