Strengths and limits
Pika
Strengths
- Budget visibility: The provider publishes examples for particular models, durations and resolutions.
- Commercial option: Creator provides a clear starting point for a licensed commercial evaluation.
- Clean exports: The plan table lists no watermark on all four plans, so a free account can still export unmarked files.
Limits to plan around
- Paid is not always commercial: Starter is a paid plan without the commercial license listed on Creator.
- Credit scope: Pika Create top-ups do not pay for the API, MCP, iOS app or legacy site.
- No refunds: Subscription payments and purchased credits are non-refundable, so a cancelled plan runs to the end of its period with nothing returned for the remainder.
Synthesia
Strengths
- Free plan without a card: Basic is shown at USD 0 and needs no credit card, which is enough for testing the editor, avatars and voices.
- Edits charge only new seconds: Regenerating an edited video spends credits on added or replaced seconds rather than on the whole video again.
- Several export files: Paid plans download 1080p MP4 video along with WAV audio, SRT and VTT captions and XLIFF translation files.
Limits to plan around
- No downloads on Basic: The free plan cannot download videos, so viewers must watch through Synthesia-hosted links or embeds.
- Credits expire each period: Unused credits reset at the start of every billing period and do not carry over when you upgrade.
- Key features need Enterprise: SCORM export, one-click translation, the multilingual player and SSO-protected viewing require an Enterprise plan.

Comparing tools from different categories is fine, and often useful — a writing assistant and a research tool solve different halves of the same job. The table will show you exactly where they diverge.
Questions about comparing tools
How does the comparison work?
Add two tools to the comparison tray from any tool card, then open this page. The table pulls each tool's verified plan details, platforms, strengths and limits from its profile, so both columns carry the same kind of evidence, with a separate source-check date for each tool.
Do you declare a winner?
No. The table sets two tools against each other on documented facts, not on a score. Which one wins depends on your task, your budget and your usage volume — three things we cannot see from here.
Why are some cells empty or marked unverified?
Because we could not confirm that detail on the vendor's own pages. Rather than filling the gap with a figure from elsewhere, we mark it and say why on the tool's profile.
Can I compare more than two tools?
Not at once. Two columns keep the differences readable and force a real decision. Remove either selected tool to replace it, or clear both to start a new pair.
Every figure in the table above comes from the linked profile, where the source and the verification date are listed. Browse all tools or read the editorial policy.
