Strengths, limits and who it suits, in full
Strengths
- Licensed voice library Library voices come from artists who license their recordings and share in the revenue.
- Convert freely, pay on export Re-rendering a take does not spend download minutes; only the exported length counts.
- Commercial use of outputs Outputs of library voices and of your own trained voices may be used commercially if you own the input.
- Producer toolkit in one place Vocal removal, stem splitting, mastering and harmonies sit next to the voice changer.
Limits
- No downloads on Free The Free plan can convert audio but has 0 download minutes.
- Kits owns your custom voice model The terms assign custom AI voice models to the company, and recordings may train its models unless you opt out.
- No refunds The help center says refunds are not authorized under the terms; appeals go through a support chat.
- Cloned voices lock on cancellation Custom voices are frozen until you subscribe again, and rolled-over download minutes are lost.
- Plan details conflict A help article from September 2026 still describes one free voice slot and unlimited Starter conversions, unlike the pricing page.
Who it suits
- Producers sketching toplines A guide vocal can be auditioned in many library voices before booking a singer.
- Singers building their own model Professional cloning trained on 10 to 60 minutes of dry vocals gives a reusable model of your voice.
- Artists who want to license their voice Kits Earn hosts verified community voices and pays the owner.
- Not for cloning someone else without permission The terms forbid impersonating a person with voice files you have no authority to use.
- Not for users who need to keep model rights anyone who must own or move a voice model should read the assignment clause in the terms first.
How much does Kits AI cost?
Prices confirmed · checked
- $10Starter
- $30Producer
- $60Professional
Regional prices: Prices are in US dollars and apply to new accounts; the pricing page says existing subscriptions may have different prices or allowances.
Annual billing is advertised as up to 47% off and charged once a year. Sales tax is added where Kits must collect it, based on the billing address. Unused download minutes roll over while the plan is active and are lost when it expires. Cancelling keeps paid features to the end of the period, then locks custom voices. The help center says refunds are not authorized under the terms.

How far does it go?
- Ten songs with a converted lead vocalTen 3.5-minute lead vocals need 35 download minutes. Starter gives 15 a month with rollover, so the batch takes 3 billed months, or $30 on monthly billing. Producer gives 60 in one month for $30, with 25 minutes left. If you render each vocal three times to compare voices, that is 105 conversion minutes, beyond Starter's 60 a month but within Producer's unlimited conversions. Arithmetic on published plan limits, not a statement by Kits AI.
Arithmetic from the published allowances above, not a usage test.

Key features
| Feature | What it does | Watch out |
|---|---|---|
| Voice changer in Kits Studio: upload an MP3 or WAV vocal, or isolate it from a full track, and convert it to another voice while keeping the delivery; up to 5 files per project (help center) | — | |
| Library of royalty-free artist voices sourced with the artists' consent and paid through revenue sharing, with Fairly Trained certified voice and instrument models (ethics page) | — | |
| Instant Voice Cloning from about 30 seconds of audio, or Professional Voice Cloning trained on a larger dataset for closer similarity (help center) | — | |
| Voice Designer, Voice Blending and Voice Variants build new voices from traits or by mixing voices (tools page, help center) | — | |
| Audio tools: vocal remover with de-echo and de-reverb, stem splitter, vocal enhance, AI mastering, harmony generator and AI instrument models (tools page) | — | |
| Desktop app in open beta for Windows and Mac with drag-and-drop into a DAW, and a REST API on paid plans (help center) | — | |
| Two kinds of minutes | Conversion minutes count what you render; download minutes count the length of audio you export, including harmony layers. | Free has 0 download minutes, so nothing made on Free can be exported. |
| Rollover with a catch | Unused download minutes on Starter and Producer roll over to the next month. | All of them are lost when the subscription expires, and resubscribing does not restore them. |
| Model quality by plan | The comparison table lists cloned-model quality as medium on Starter and high-fidelity on Producer and Professional. | The pages do not say how the two quality levels differ in sample rate or training time. |
What can you do on the Free plan?
Free is a listening plan. The pricing table gives 15 conversion minutes a month and 0 download minutes, and the download minutes article confirms that free accounts cannot download. You can upload a vocal, convert it into library voices and hear the result in the browser, but exporting it for a session needs Starter or higher.
Voice slots are less clear. The pricing table lists 0 for Free, while the Voice Designer article says free users can create one designed voice, and a September 2026 plans article mentions one free voice slot. Treat a custom voice on Free as uncertain. A free alternative that runs entirely on your own computer is Applio, open-source voice conversion with no account, although its docs recommend an Nvidia RTX 20-series GPU or newer for training.
Which runs out first: conversion or download minutes?
Kits meters two things. Conversion minutes cover the audio you render while experimenting; download minutes cover the length of audio you export, and the Harmony Generator article counts harmony layers the same way. On Starter, trying four voices per take means 60 conversion minutes cover 15 minutes of source audio, the same amount you may download. Producer removes the conversion cap, subject to fair use, and raises downloads to 60 minutes.
According to the cancellation article, unused download minutes roll over month to month, but every banked minute disappears when the subscription expires and does not come back if you resubscribe. Spend banked minutes before cancelling.
Instant or Professional cloning, and whose voice may you clone?
The cloning comparison describes Instant Voice Cloning as working from about 30 seconds of reference audio and ready at once, with results that may not sound exactly like the source. Professional Voice Cloning recommends 10 to 60 minutes of dry, monophonic vocals and takes from 30 minutes to several hours to train. Both are on Starter and above.
Consent is the user’s responsibility. The terms forbid impersonating anyone with a voice file you have no authority to use, and the Voice Changer article repeats that you must own the rights to all training data. The ownership check Kits describes, comparing your live vocal with the trained one, applies to Kits Earn submissions for the public library, not to every private clone.
Who owns your voice model and its output?
Outputs and models are treated differently. The rights article says that, as long as you owned the input, you may use outputs of library voices and of your own trained models for personal and commercial work, including streaming releases. The terms, however, state that custom AI voice models are owned exclusively by the company and assign any rights you hold in them to Kits.
For accounts created on or after October 2, 2024, the terms also let Kits train its models on your uploaded voice files and outputs. You can opt out by emailing outreach@kits.ai from your account address, but the opt-out covers only future files; earlier uploads and models already trained may still be used. Voices stay private by default and can be shared with named email addresses.
How could you check Kits AI before paying?
Proposed evaluation · not performed yet
Check whether the free conversion minutes are enough to judge a library voice on your own material.
- Sign up on Free and note the 15 conversion minutes.
- Upload a 30-second dry vocal you recorded yourself as WAV.
- Convert it into three library voices and listen for timing, pitch and artifacts.
- Check how many conversion minutes were used and that the Download button asks for an upgrade.
Accept if three conversions use about 1.5 minutes and keep the original phrasing. Reject if the meter charges more than the audio length converted. No result is recorded here.

Frequently asked questions
Does Kits AI have an API?
Yes, for Starter, Producer and Professional subscribers. You generate an access token on the API access page and follow the published documentation; higher rate limits or an enterprise plan are arranged by contacting Kits. Text-to-speech was removed from the API on September 22, 2025, so the API covers voice conversion and audio tools.
Is there a Kits AI desktop app or plugin?
There is a desktop app in open beta, free to download for Mac and Windows according to the help center, although the download page shows a Windows button. Version 1 converts audio with any library or custom voice, auditions several voices at once and lets you drag results into a DAW. The pages do not describe a VST or AU plugin.
Can I get a refund from Kits AI?
Normally not. The help center says refunds are not authorized under the terms, and you keep paid features until the end of the period you paid for. If you bought by mistake, you can open a refund ticket through the support chat; Kits says such requests are usually handled within 7 business days. Cancel from the subscriptions page.
Who operates Kits AI?
Arpeggi Labs, Inc., 548 Market St, PMB 58661, San Francisco, California, according to the Terms of Service, last revised October 2, 2024. The terms are governed by New York law and include binding individual arbitration with a class action waiver; you can opt out of arbitration by written notice within 30 days of first registering.
Why was I charged after cancelling Kits AI?
The help center explains that this usually happens when the cancellation came after the renewal date: the first charge failed, the subscription renewed for that month, and a later retry succeeded. Cancelling before the renewal date avoids it. Since September 2026, sales tax is also added where Kits must collect it.
