Which should you choose?

Choose Jasper if one marketer needs stored brand voices, audiences and product knowledge applied to every draft, files to download as Word or PDF, and a budget of USD 59 to 69 a month for a single seat. Choose Copy.ai if two to five people will share one account, since its USD 29 Chat plan covers five seats, or if you want to switch between OpenAI, Anthropic and Gemini models.

Key differences between Jasper and Copy.ai

  • Billing unitJasper Pro is priced per seat and covers one user: USD 59 a month billed yearly or USD 69 monthly. Copy.ai Chat is priced per workspace at USD 29 a month, or USD 24 billed annually, for up to five seats.
  • Worked exampleFor one writer on yearly billing, Jasper Pro costs USD 708 against USD 288 for Copy.ai Chat, which still leaves four seats free. Assuming three writers, Copy.ai stays at USD 288, about USD 96 each, while Jasper needs the sales-quoted Business plan, because Pro is one seat and extra users are Business-only.
  • Free accessJasper offers a 7-day Pro trial that needs a credit card and rolls into a paid plan unless cancelled. Copy.ai lists no free plan on its pricing page, and a help article says the free plan was sunset, although the Chat page still invites a free start without a card.
  • Brand contextJasper Pro stores 2 Brand Voices, 3 Audiences and 5 knowledge assets that apply across Chat, agents and documents. Copy.ai pairs a Brand Voice built from pasted samples with an Infobase of Word, PDF or text documents called into prompts by tag.
  • AutomationJasper Grid and advanced agents run on Business credits, for example 10 credits per Grid row and 40 per Translation Agent run. Copy.ai Workflows spend workspace credits per run and cost nothing while testing, but the Chat card lists no workflow allowance; Growth is the first plan with one, 20K credits a month.
  • OutputJasper downloads each asset as .docx, .pdf, .txt or .md and offers Word, Google Docs and Slack add-ins. The Copy.ai editor exports text without a named file format, and Workflows can create Google Docs or OneDrive documents.

Which one, when

Jasper for a solo marketer with a defined brand

One seat carries stored voices, audiences and product facts into each draft. Pay yearly only if you expect to stay past about ten months, because USD 708 up front equals roughly ten payments of USD 69.

Copy.ai for a small team on one budget

Up to five people share one Chat plan with unlimited words, so the cost per writer falls with every person added up to five, to about USD 4.80 a month each on annual billing.

A quoted tier for bulk production

Jasper Grid and API access and Copy.ai bulk workflow runs and API access all sit on sales-priced plans, so spreadsheet-scale content needs a quote from either vendor.

Our editorial judgement about fit. Neither tool carries a score here, and we have not run controlled tests against either one.

Strengths
  • Brand, audience and product context in one place: Brand Voices, Audiences and knowledge assets apply to Chat, agents and documents instead of being pasted into each prompt.
  • Monthly billing without commitment: Pro at USD 69 a month can be cancelled anytime, with access kept to the end of the billing cycle.
  • Several download formats: Finished assets download as Word, PDF, plain text or Markdown files.
  • Several model families: The Chat plan card lists OpenAI, Anthropic and Gemini models, and a conversation can switch models midway.
  • Five seats in the entry plan: The Chat plan card lists 5 seats with unlimited words and unlimited chat projects.
  • Tone profile plus #tag document library: Brand Voice and Infobase let a team reuse tone and company facts instead of repeating them in every prompt.
Limits to plan around
  • No free plan: Access starts with a 7-day trial that requires a credit card and rolls into a paid subscription unless cancelled.
  • Pro is a single seat: Collaboration, sharing, team analytics and extra users all require the custom-priced Business plan.
  • Key features gated to Business: API access, Studio custom agents, Grid, the Style Guide and SSO are listed for Business only.
  • No free plan: The pricing page lists only paid plans, and the help center says the free plan was sunset.
  • Steep step after five seats: The plan after Chat is Growth, billed yearly with no monthly option, so a sixth writer changes the budget by an order of magnitude.
  • Credits do not roll over: Workflow credits reset each month and apply to the whole workspace.

What does each tool cost for one, five or six writers?

Jasper prices Pro by the seat and Copy.ai prices Chat by the workspace, so headcount moves the gap more than any feature does. The figures below are list prices in US dollars before tax.

  • One writer: Jasper Pro comes to USD 828 a year on monthly billing (12 x 69) or USD 708 paid up front; Copy.ai Chat comes to USD 348 on monthly billing (12 x 29) or USD 288 on annual billing.
  • Five writers: one Copy.ai Chat plan still covers everyone. On Jasper, shared projects and extra users need Business, which is quoted by sales with a 12-month commitment.
  • Six writers: Copy.ai’s next plan is Growth at USD 1,000 a month, billed yearly as USD 12,000, for up to 75 seats and 20K workflow credits a month, about 42 times the annual Chat price. On Jasper, a sixth writer still means the sales-quoted Business plan.

Switching terms differ too. Jasper treats yearly Pro and every Business contract as 12-month commitments, and after the first 7 days unused time is not refunded. Copy.ai moves a monthly plan to yearly at any plan change, but going back from yearly to monthly needs a request to support.

How far does the entry plan go before a quoted tier?

Jasper Pro includes Canvas, Chat and the marketing agents, while Grid, Studio custom agents, the Style Guide, API access and SSO are listed for Business only. Credits for advanced agents also arrive only with Business, and Jasper does not publish the included allowance, so a Research Agent run at 40 credits cannot be priced from the website.

Copy.ai Chat gives unlimited words and chat projects across OpenAI, Anthropic and Gemini models, with live web search that returns cited links. Workflows are where the entry plan thins out: monthly workflow credits start with Growth, they reset without rollover, and bulk runs sit on Enterprise.

Which one keeps a brand voice with less setup?

Jasper builds a voice from up to 8 samples, including .pdf or .docx files and URLs, and pairs it with Audiences and a Knowledge Base that also takes audio, images and video. On Pro the caps shape agency work, because two voices cover two brands at most; deleting one frees the slot.

Copy.ai reads pasted website copy or blog posts into an editable tone summary, and Infobase stores guidelines or product sheets that a prompt calls in with a tag such as #guidelines. Copy.ai’s Brand Voice and Infobase accept text only, so audio and video must arrive as transcripts or URLs.

Which team should pick which?

Seat count and whether bulk production is planned decide this more than writing quality claims.

  • Jasper Pro: one marketer or freelancer serving up to two brands who hands clients Word or PDF files and drafts inside Word or Google Docs.
  • Copy.ai Chat: two to five people writing sales and marketing copy in chat who value switching models over stored audience profiles.
  • Copy.ai Growth: six to 75 people, or a smaller team that needs workflow credits, on a yearly contract.
  • Jasper Business or Copy.ai Enterprise: spreadsheet-scale content, API access or SSO; Jasper does not publish Business credit allowances, so ask for them in writing before signing.

Frequently asked questions

Which is cheaper, Jasper or Copy.ai?

For a team that fits the Chat seat allowance, Copy.ai has the lower listed subscription cost. Once a sixth writer or automated production is required, compare a Jasper Business quote with the appropriate Copy.ai tier. Include the specific workflow allowance, required integrations and billing commitment; a cheaper chat subscription does not cover every automation use case.

Can I try either tool without paying?

Jasper offers a 7-day Pro trial; a card is required at signup, and cancelling in the app during the trial avoids any charge. Copy.ai shows no free plan in its price list, yet the Chat page still offers a free sign-up with no card, so check what the sign-up screen offers before planning around a free tier.

What if I cancel after a few weeks?

A monthly Jasper Pro plan can be cancelled anytime and stays active to the end of the cycle, while annual Jasper plans are refundable only within their first 7 days. Copy.ai refunds only within five days of the first purchase, and not if the account was used in that calendar month; a cancelled plan runs to the end of its period.

Which one works inside Word or Google Docs?

Jasper lists a Microsoft Word add-in, a Google Docs add-on, a Slack app and a browser extension for Chrome and Edge. Copy.ai runs as a web application; its Workflows can create Google Docs or OneDrive documents and connect to Salesforce, HubSpot, Microsoft Teams and Slack, but no add-in for writing inside Word is listed.

Can developers call either tool through an API?

Only on the sales-priced tiers. Jasper's API and MCP server require Business, and each call spends workspace credits, for example 1 credit per content-generation call and 4 per standard agent run. Copy.ai lists API access and bulk workflow runs under Enterprise, where the Workflows API can start a workflow from another system.
