Strengths, limits and who it suits, in full
Strengths
- Per-unit detection rates are published The pricing page lists audio, image, video and Intelligence rates per second or per image for each plan.
- No subscription needed to start Flex has no subscription fee and its prepaid credits do not expire.
- Honest about detector limits The ethics page says no detector is perfect and that results inform a human decision.
Limits
- No published voice generation rate The pricing page lists no text-to-speech or voice cloning price, so voice cost is not verifiable from it.
- Accuracy figures are vendor-stated The homepage shows 99.5%, 98% and 96% in one place and 95.8% and 98.2% for image and video in another; we did not test any of them.
- Higher tiers gate voice features The docs say the Voice Cloning API requires a Business plan or higher, and WebSocket TTS streaming is Business and above.
- Enterprise features are by quote SLAs, custom model training, on-premises deployment and dedicated support need a conversation with sales.
Who it suits
- Trust and safety, fraud and compliance teams per-second audio and video rates and a Teams integration fit screening calls, uploads and claims.
- Developers adding a detection check to an app Flex lets you start without a subscription, and the API accepts a URL or a secure upload token.
- Media teams that need provenance records watermarking with C2PA signing is listed, but its fit for a publishing workflow needs a test on your files.
- People shopping for a general voice generator not a clear fit today; the voice rate is not published and the company's focus is detection.

How far does it go?
- Audio detection: include the subscriptionIllustrative audio-only workload using published rates and monthly billing. Flex total = $0.035 × seconds. Team total = $350 + $0.015 × seconds. Equality occurs at 17,500 seconds (about 4.86 hours). One 600-second file costs $21 on Flex or $9 in Team usage plus its $350 subscription: $359 total if that is the month’s only file. Taxes and other services are excluded. This is arithmetic, not a product test.

| Text-to-speech, voice cloning and speech-to-text in the developer API, with Resemble Ultra as the current voice model | The model-versions page lists Resemble Ultra as the only current text-to-speech model and Chatterbox, Chatterbox-Turbo and earlier versions as end of life on the hosted API, while the open-source Chatterbox is described as MIT licensed. | Self-hosting the open-source model and using the hosted voice API are different routes with different support. |
| Detection first, voice second | The company's about page says it is focused entirely on multimodal AI detection, while the docs still list text-to-speech, speech-to-speech and voice cloning under Voice APIs. | If you arrived to buy a voice generator, confirm the voice product and its rate with the vendor before building on it. |
| Voice cloning terms | Cloning from 10 seconds of audio is documented; the first clone is free and each extra clone is $2 per the May 2026 changelog, but the docs say the cloning API needs a Business plan or higher. The ethics page says voice work required explicit consent and speaker verification. | Get the speaker's written consent before cloning anyone else's voice. |
Is Resemble AI a voice generator or a deepfake detector?
Today it is mainly a detector. Resemble’s about page says the company started in 2019 to solve a voice production problem in gaming and then shifted its focus to detection. It now says it is focused entirely on multimodal AI detection. The homepage and the pricing page agree: they sell detection for audio, video and images, plus Intelligence, Meetings, Identity, Watermarker and Agent Detection, and they show no voice generation product.
Voice generation has not vanished. The developer docs still list text-to-speech, speech-to-speech and voice cloning under Voice APIs, the changelog shows voice updates through June 2026, and a text-to-speech product page describes the open-source Chatterbox model. The two descriptions sit side by side, so the first decision is which product you want.
What does detection cost per file?
Detection is billed per second of audio or video and per image. The Flex plan has no subscription fee: you load credits, they do not expire, and you pay only for what you run. Team and Business cost a monthly fee and cut the detection rates by more than half.
| Service | Flex | Team and Business |
|---|---|---|
| Detect, audio | $0.035 per second | $0.015 per second |
| Detect, image | $0.035 per image | $0.015 per image |
| Detect, video | $0.07 per second | $0.03 per second |
| Intelligence | $0.025 per second | $0.015 per second |
The page shows Team at $350 a month billed monthly or $280 a month billed annually, and Business at $1,000 a month billed monthly or $800 a month billed annually. Team adds large and batch uploads and 5 seats; Business adds Single Sign-On and 20 seats.
When does the Team plan pay for itself?
Only for steady volume. Editorial assumption using the published rates: audio detection saves $0.02 a second on Team ($0.035 minus $0.015). The $350 monthly fee divided by $0.02 is 17,500 seconds, about 292 minutes or 4.9 hours of audio a month. A 10-minute call is 600 seconds, which adds $21 of Flex usage or $9 of Team usage. Team also has its $350 monthly subscription: if this is the only call that month, the totals are $21 and $359 respectively, before tax.
- Below 17,500 seconds of audio a month, Flex has the lower combined subscription-plus-usage cost under monthly billing.
- Above that threshold, Team has the lower combined cost in this audio-only calculation. Its per-second usage rate is lower at any volume, but that alone does not repay the subscription.
- Video saves $0.04 a second, so a video-heavy workload reaches break-even faster.
These are provider rates, not measured results, and they ignore taxes, seats and any volume discount from sales.
How much should you trust the accuracy figures?
Treat them as the vendor’s claims. The homepage states accuracy of 99.5% for audio, 98% for video and 96% for images for its DETECT-World model, and a benchmark panel on the same page shows 95.8% for images and 98.2% for video. The two panels do not match, and a footnote says image and video results come from internal testing with external testing in progress. We did not test the detector.
The vendor is also cautious about itself: its ethics page says no detector is perfect and that results inform a decision your team makes. A June 22, 2026 changelog entry reports a new audio model with an equal error rate down to 4%, which is a different measure from accuracy. Run the detector on your own files, including recordings you are authorized to upload, before using a result to reject a caller or a claim.
What is verifiable about the voice products?
The facts we could confirm are narrow. Resemble Ultra is the current text-to-speech model, and the model-versions page lists Chatterbox, Chatterbox-Turbo and every earlier model as end of life on the hosted API. The official Chatterbox repository carries an MIT license with zero-shot voice cloning, so a team can self-host it without the hosted API.
Cloning needs only about 10 seconds of audio according to the docs, but the same page says the Voice Cloning API requires a Business plan or higher, and the text-to-speech page marks WebSocket streaming as Business and above. The May 8, 2026 changelog says the first clone is free and each extra clone is $2. No page we read lists a price per character or per minute of generated speech, so the cost of generating audio at volume is unknown until you ask the vendor.
Which Resemble product fits your task?
| Task | Product to check | What the sources say |
|---|---|---|
| Screen a call recording, upload or video | Detect | Per-second or per-image rates; API accepts a URL or secure upload token. |
| Explain a result to a non-expert | Intelligence | Plain-language analysis; $0.025 per second on Flex. |
| Check callers or meeting participants live | Meetings | Native Microsoft Teams integration; admin features on Business. |
| Mark and trace your own media | Watermarker | $0.0005 per encode and $0.0002 per decode; C2PA signing listed. |
| Generate or clone a voice | Voice APIs | Rate not published; cloning API needs Business or higher per the docs. |
How to test Resemble before you commit
Proposed evaluation · not performed yet
Build a small set before paying for a subscription.
- Collect 20 to 30 files you already know the truth about: non-sensitive recordings you own or have explicit permission to upload, and synthetic samples you made yourself.
- Run them on Flex and note the cost per file against the rates above.
- Record every false alarm on genuine files; those are the cases that hurt a real customer.
- If you need voice generation, ask sales for the text-to-speech rate in writing before you build on it.
- Save the pricing page and the terms version you relied on.
Is Resemble AI worth it?
Documentation review plus dated public user reports. Documentation review, not tested hands-on. Not scored.
Worth it if
- You need to screen audio, video or images for deepfakes through an API and want to start without a subscription, since Flex bills usage from prepaid credits that do not expire.
- You run steady detection volume and can compare the $350 per month Team plan against Flex, because the published per-unit rates drop from $0.035 to $0.015 per second for audio.
- You want published per-unit prices for detection, Intelligence, Identity and Watermarker before talking to sales.
Probably not if
- You need a text-to-speech or voice generation tool with a published price, because the pricing page lists no voice rate and the company describes itself as focused on detection.
- You want a guaranteed catch rate, since the vendor's accuracy figures are its own claims and its ethics page says no detector is perfect.

Frequently asked questions
Is Resemble AI free?
There is no subscription fee on the Flex plan, but usage is billed from prepaid credits at $0.035 a second for audio detection. The pricing page says no credit card is needed to try it, and it does not state a free credit amount.
Does Resemble AI still do text-to-speech?
The developer docs and a product page still describe text-to-speech and voice cloning, but the company says it is focused entirely on detection and the pricing page lists no voice rate. Confirm availability and price with the vendor.
Is Resemble AI the same as Chatterbox?
Chatterbox is Resemble's open-source voice model, described as MIT licensed. On the hosted API it is listed as end of life, and Resemble Ultra is the current model.
Can Resemble AI detect every deepfake?
No. The company's own ethics page says no detector is perfect, and its accuracy figures are vendor claims that we did not test.
Is there a cheaper alternative to Resemble AI?
Other detection and voice tools price differently; compare them on the same files and units rather than on subscription price. See the audio category for profiles.

The homepage and pricing page present the company as a deepfake detection platform and list no voice generation product or rate. Voice generation was verified separately from the developer docs, the text-to-speech and voice creation product pages and the changelog, which list Resemble Ultra, voice cloning and speech-to-speech. The docs state the Voice Cloning API requires a Business plan, which the pricing page does not repeat, so the voice plan requirements are described from the docs only. Accuracy figures on the homepage are vendor claims and are inconsistent between two panels on the same page; no detector accuracy is stated as verified by us. The current name is Resemble AI at resemble.ai; no rebrand was found, though the changelog says the Guard product was renamed Trace in June 2026. The GitHub and Hugging Face links for the open-source Chatterbox were seen on the product page but not otherwise checked. Independent review 2026-10-04 confirmed the official repository MIT license and corrected the annual-billing wording and subscription-inclusive workload calculation.
