How far does it go?
- Cost per download at full usePlus on annual billing: $4.99 / 100 downloads = about $0.05 per track. Pro on annual billing: $9.99 / 400 = about $0.025. Business entry on annual billing: $45.99 / 750 = about $0.06. Each download covers both the MP3 and WAV of one track. Unused downloads do not carry over, so the real cost per track rises when fewer are used.

| Template generation | Builds a full track or a 30-second loop from a chosen genre and template, then lets you create similar versions. | A generated track that is not saved cannot be recreated, so save before moving on. |
| Downloads and STEMs | One monthly download covers both the MP3 and the WAV of a track; STEM packs add stems, MIDI and the mixed master. | Downloaded tracks can no longer be edited in Soundful, and monthly counts do not stack. |
| License tiers | Personal, Music Creator and Business licenses set where a download may be used. | Film, TV, apps, games and audiences above 100K monthly users need the Business License. |
What can you actually download on the Free plan?
Free lets you generate as many tracks as you like from 25+ styles, but download only 1 MP3 a month. It carries the Personal License, which the license table limits to non-commercial projects, requires credit to Soundful and does not mark for social media, personal podcasts or videos. In practice Free is a way to audition styles, not to score a channel.
Generation is not metered on any plan, so previews and similar versions cost nothing. The help center warns that a generated track that is not saved cannot be recreated, and that a downloaded track can no longer be edited. Save candidates to My Library, finish the edit, then spend the download.
Which license covers YouTube, client work or a game?
The license page sets the boundaries row by row. The Music Creator License, included with Plus and Pro, covers commercial projects such as digital ads, social media and personal videos, revenue-generating products and perpetual use without credit, for work reaching fewer than 100,000 users a month.
Only the Business License covers reach above 100,000 monthly users, film, TV and advertisement, apps and games, and API access. Business is sold to organizations with under $1M in revenue; the pricing page lists TV shows and TV ads under Enterprise. Match the license row to the final placement before buying, not to the size of the project.
- A monetized YouTube channel under 100K monthly users: Music Creator License (Plus or Pro).
- A client social ad: Music Creator License covers digital ads; a TV spot is outside it.
- A mobile game or app soundtrack: Business License.
How do Plus, Pro and Business differ beyond downloads?
Plus and Pro share the same Music Creator License and 150+ styles; Pro adds four times the downloads, 20 STEM packs a month and direct distribution to SoundCloud. Business scales downloads in three steps, 750, 1,500 or 3,000 a month, with 35, 100 or 300 STEM packs, and changes the license rather than the generator.
Editorial assessment
Plus suits a creator publishing a few videos a week, Pro suits producers who want stems to rework in a DAW, and Business is the answer only when the placement needs its license row. Downloads and STEM packs reset each month on the upgrade date, so a quiet month does not bank credit for a busy one.
What does a download include, and how are STEM packs used?
According to the help center, one monthly download lets you take both the MP3 and the WAV of the same track. A STEM pack is a zipped folder with the individual stems, a MIDI file and the mixed and mastered file, and monthly STEM allowances can be used on loops or full tracks.
Rendering WAV and STEM files can take longer, and Soundful emails when a render is ready. Extra STEM bundles bought on a premium plan stay with the account until used, even after a downgrade. Loops are typically about 30 seconds and are non-exclusive, so other users may download the same loop.
Who owns the music, and can it go to Spotify?
The help center says Soundful owns the master license of downloaded tracks and grants premium members royalty-free, monetized use. Global Tracks and loops are non-exclusive. Its terms, updated January 1, 2024, are general site terms under California law and do not restate plan-level licensing.
The sources disagree on streaming releases. The license table marks commercial music releases as covered by the Music Creator License, while a help answer says a copyright purchase is required to stream on Spotify or Apple Music, and describes it under a retired plan name. Before distributing a release, get written confirmation from support@soundful.com.
Can you get a refund, and what should you check first?
The help center offers a refund only if none of the premium features of the plan have been used; starting to use them waives the withdrawal right. That makes the Free plan the place to test styles, and the first paid download the point of no return.
Before upgrading, generate and save a few candidate tracks on Free, pick the style you will actually use, and check which license row your placement needs. The help center says active discount codes are advertised on the site and entered through Plan Details at purchase.
Can Soundful score a 60-second YouTube intro without a paid license?
Proposed evaluation · not performed yet
On a Free account, pick one lo-fi or corporate template and generate three candidate tracks for a 60-second channel intro. Use the single monthly MP3 download on the strongest one, and do not publish it, because the Personal License does not cover social video.
- Record the templates used and the date of the free download reset.
- Generate three tracks and save each one to My Library.
- Create one similar version of the strongest track.
- Download it as MP3 and check length, loop point and loudness in a video editor.
- Note which license row a published version would need and which plan includes it.
Accept a track that fits 60 seconds with a clean ending and no clipped audio. Reject a track that cannot be trimmed without an audible cut, or a download that fails. Leave the observed result blank until the exercise is run.
For voiceovers rather than background music, see ElevenLabs or Murf. To clean and level a finished podcast mix that uses these tracks, compare Auphonic and Adobe Podcast.
Is Soundful worth it?
Documentation review plus dated public user reports. Documentation review, not tested hands-on. Not scored.
Worth it if
- You make monetized videos or digital ads for audiences under 100K monthly users, because Plus carries the Music Creator License at the lowest paid price.
- You want to audition styles before paying, since generation is unmetered and Free costs nothing to try.
Probably not if
- You need music for film, TV, apps, games or large audiences, because those placements sit under the Business or Enterprise license rows.
- You plan to release songs on streaming services without written confirmation, as the license table and a help answer disagree on that use.

Frequently asked questions
Is Soundful the same as the Soundful apps in the mobile stores?
Not necessarily. Searches return similarly named apps from other publishers. The help center says Soundful has no downloadable app yet; it runs in a desktop browser, with limited support on a phone browser. The service discussed here is at soundful.com and is operated by Soundful Inc., based in San Diego, California.
Can Soundful make songs with lyrics or vocals?
Not inside the generator. Its own AI Song Generator page describes a workflow in which Soundful creates the instrumental, you write lyrics and record them or use a separate text-to-vocal tool, then combine both in an audio workstation. Check the license row for the finished song, because a vocal release is a commercial music release.
Does Soundful have an API for apps or platforms?
It depends on the source. The license table lists API access only under the Business License, and a help answer describes API pulls with 1,000 included a month and $1 per extra pull. Another help answer says API use is not allowed under the terms. Ask sales for the current API terms in writing.
Are Soundful tracks unique to my account?
Not always. The help center says loops and Global Tracks are non-exclusive, so other members can use the same audio. A track you generate yourself is described as a unique layout that will not be created again, which is why saving it matters. Exclusivity for your own tracks is described only under older plan terms.
Was the Soundful model trained on copyrighted songs?
Soundful says no. The help center states that its AI is not trained on previously copyrighted music and is instead based on music theory and material from its in-house production team, and the homepage describes producer-led, ethically trained AI. These are provider statements; no training data list is published.

Plan names, prices and license tiers come from the current pricing and license pages. Several help center answers still describe retired plans (Standard, Content Creator, Music Creator Plus) with other limits, attribution rules and copyright purchase from $50 a track; they were not used as current terms. The license table allows commercial music releases on the Music Creator License, while a help answer says Spotify needs a copyright purchase. One help answer rules out API use; the Business License lists API access. The terms name Soundful Inc. under California law.
