Strengths, limits and who it suits, in full
Strengths
- Free way to build a prototype The Free plan costs $0 and includes 30 minutes a month with API access, enough to test a persona before paying.
- Spend can be capped The pricing FAQ says a spend cap limits charges for extra minutes, and the SDK can limit session length.
- Training stance is stated The Privacy Policy says customer session content is not used to train CARA or third-party foundation models unless agreed in writing.
- Use your own model The documentation says you can bring your own LLM, STT or TTS instead of the default pipeline.
Limits
- Free is short and non-commercial Free conversations stop at 3 minutes, allow 1 session at a time and do not include commercial use.
- Minutes run while idle The billing documentation says silence, a muted microphone or an idle avatar does not pause a session.
- Unused minutes expire The pricing FAQ says unused minutes do not roll over, and paid subscriptions cannot be paused.
- Provider figures disagree The homepage says 70+ languages and 180 ms average response; llms.txt says 50+ languages and 750 ms to 2 s end to end.
- Session recordings can be kept The Privacy Policy says non-Zero-Data-Retention recordings are kept for up to 30 days, and the pricing page lists Zero Data Retention only on Enterprise.
Who it suits
- Developers adding a face to a support or sales agent The documentation describes support, sales, tutoring and medical front-desk uses with an embeddable widget and SDKs.
- Teams that can estimate minutes per conversation Plans and overage rates are per minute, so a known conversation length makes cost predictable.
- Anyone who wants to test before paying The Free plan costs $0, though it excludes commercial use.
- Not for pre-recorded video production the pages describe live sessions billed by the minute, not a rendered-video editor.
- Not for users who need exclusive character likeness The Terms say AI persona likenesses are stock personas with no exclusive rights.
How much does Anam cost?
Prices confirmed · checked
Regional prices: Prices are in USD as shown on the pricing page on 2026-10-17.
The page shows monthly prices only; no annual billing option or yearly total was shown. Included minutes do not roll over, billing is by the second, and a spend cap can limit overage charges. Plans differ in conversation length, simultaneous sessions and support. The page says unused minutes are not carried over when you change plans, and paid subscriptions cannot be paused. Taxes and regional pricing were not shown. Whether the per-minute price covers the LLM and voice in the default Turnkey pipeline was not stated on the pages read; the billing documentation says external providers may charge separately when you bring your own LLM or TTS.

How far does it go?
- What minutes cost on each planAt 1,000 minutes in a month, Starter would cost $12 plus 950 extra minutes at $0.16, or $164, and Explorer $49 plus 750 extra minutes at $0.14, or $154. Growth is $299 with 2,000 minutes included, so on price alone it beats Explorer only past about 2,036 minutes. Conversation length and simultaneous sessions also differ by plan, and Starter caps a conversation at 5 minutes while Explorer allows 10, so length can decide the plan before cost does. These figures use the pricing page's rates and do not include any separately billed LLM or voice provider.

Key features
| Feature | What it does | Watch out |
|---|---|---|
| Personas that combine a face, a voice, an LLM and a system prompt, embedded as a widget or built with JavaScript and Python SDKs (documentation) | — | |
| Turnkey pipeline of speech-to-text, LLM, text-to-speech and avatar video, or bring your own LLM, STT or TTS (documentation) | You can connect your own LLM, STT or TTS, or stream pre-generated audio and have Anam generate the face only. | The billing documentation says external providers may charge separately; the Anam price for these modes depends on your agreement. |
| Unlimited saved custom avatars on every plan, created from an uploaded image or a text prompt, subject to daily image limits (pricing page, billing documentation) | — | |
| LiveKit and Pipecat integrations for adding a face to an existing voice agent (homepage) | — | |
| Custom voices, including cloning in 44 Cartesia languages and ElevenLabs v4 voice import (changelog) | — | |
| Billing is session time | Usage is counted by the second from the start of a session until it ends, whether or not anyone is talking, and unused minutes do not roll over. | A long idle session still consumes the allowance, so session limits and closing sessions matter. |
| Concurrency is a plan limit | All websites in one organization share the simultaneous-session allowance, from 1 on Free and Starter to 10 on Professional. | A start can be rejected at the limit, so peak traffic, not monthly minutes, may set the plan. |
What does a live avatar session actually cost?
Anam bills by session time, not by message. The pricing FAQ says the clock runs by the second from the moment a session starts until it ends, even if nobody speaks, and the billing documentation says a muted microphone or idle avatar does not pause it. Close sessions when users leave, or cap session length in the SDK.
Which limits decide the plan?
Three limits matter before price: the longest single conversation (3 minutes on Free, 5 on Starter, 10 on Explorer, up to 2 hours on Growth and Professional), the number of simultaneous sessions (1, 1, 3, 5 and 10 on those plans), and whether commercial use is included, which Free excludes. The pricing FAQ gives a rule of thumb of about 200 daily active users per concurrent slot, which the provider notes depends on when and how long people talk.
What should you check about data and disclosure?
The Privacy Policy says customer session content is not used to train CARA or third-party foundation models unless agreed in writing, and that recordings of sessions without Zero Data Retention are kept for up to 30 days. The pricing page lists Zero Data Retention only on Enterprise. The disclosure guide tells builders to make clear that users are speaking with an AI avatar.
How could you check Anam before paying?
Proposed evaluation · not performed yet
Measure how many minutes your own use case consumes.
- On the Free plan, create a persona with your own prompt and run three realistic conversations to the 3-minute limit.
- Note the minutes used in Billing and usage and the delay before the avatar first answers.
- Multiply by your expected monthly conversations and compare with the included minutes and the per-minute rate of each plan.

Yes, in a limited form. The Free plan costs $0 and includes 30 minutes a month, conversations up to 3 minutes, 1 simultaneous session and API access. It has no overage billing and does not include commercial use, so a live customer-facing avatar needs Starter at $12 a month or higher.
How much does Anam AI cost per minute?
Each paid plan includes a monthly minute allowance and bills extra minutes at a fixed rate: $0.16 on Starter, $0.14 on Explorer, $0.12 on Growth and $0.11 on Professional. The pricing page says avatars start from $0.04 a minute at scale on Enterprise. Minutes are counted by the second while a session is open, speaking or not.
