AI tools for avatar videos

You need a presenter on screen without filming one: a training module, a product explainer, a translated version or a live host on an event page. Which AI avatar tools make each of these, on which plan, and whose face and license do they allow?

HeyGen, Synthesia, D-ID and 3 more

Which tool fits, in short?

Start from the job, not the avatar. For recorded training, explainers and product videos, HeyGen and Synthesia turn scripts and slides into presenter videos and translate them, and D-ID renders a stock or photo avatar on monthly minutes. For a live host that answers visitors, Anam bills open session time and caps simultaneous conversations. TikTok Symphony makes free avatar videos that stay on TikTok, and Dzine animates one portrait you have rights to. Settle consent and paid-ad rights before price.

How each option fits avatar videos

Each note comes from the tool's source-checked profile. The condition line is what to confirm before you rely on it for this task.

  1. HeyGen

AI Studio builds a presenter video from a script with avatar, voice, gesture and caption controls, PPT/PDF to Video turns a deck into avatar-led scenes, and Video Translation re-voices finished footage with or without lip sync. In the example, Creator's 600 credits hold the 5.5 new minutes at 31 credits a minute for an Avatar IV video look plus the 8 translated minutes at 6 a minute in Speed mode, about 219 credits.

Check first: Free videos stop at 1 minute and keep the watermark. Creator costs USD 24 per month billed yearly (USD 29 billed monthly); an LMS that needs a SCORM package moves you to Business at USD 119 per month billed yearly. Choosing Avatar V at 48 credits a minute raises the same new minutes from about 171 to 264 credits.

  2. Synthesia

Scripts, documents and PowerPoint decks, with speaker notes as the script, become presenter videos, and AI Dubbing re-voices an uploaded video with optional lip sync. Every plan includes 10 minutes of video a month, so the example's 5.5 new minutes fit inside it; on Starter, lip-synced dubbing of the 8 translated minutes at 80 credits a minute uses 640 of the 1,750 monthly credits.

Check first: Basic cannot download, so an MP4 for an LMS or a website needs Starter at USD 14 per month billed yearly (USD 19 billed monthly). The dubbing help article still lists 240 credits a minute for lip sync, which would need 1,920 credits for the same minutes. Dubbing leaves on-screen text in the original language, and SCORM and SSO sit on Enterprise.

  3. D-ID

Pick a stock avatar or upload a face, add a script or audio, and D-ID renders a talking presenter with text-to-speech in 30+ languages, also through an API that draws on the same minutes. Pro's 15 minutes a month hold the example's 13.5 recorded minutes; lengths round up to the next 15 seconds, and the 4-minute module is within the 5-minute translation limit below Enterprise.

Check first: There is no free plan, only a 14-day trial with 3 minutes, a full-screen watermark and personal use. Lite at $56 billed annually is also personal use; the commercial license starts on Pro at $191 billed annually, which still carries an AI watermark until the custom logo on Advanced at $1,293 billed annually. Unused minutes expire each month.

  4. Anam

Anam is the live route: a persona combines a face, a voice, an LLM and a prompt, and a widget or SDK puts it on a web page where visitors talk to it on video in real time. For the example's 150 conversation minutes with up to 3 visitors at once, Explorer at $49 a month fits, with 250 minutes, 3 simultaneous sessions and conversations up to 10 minutes.

Check first: Its profile covers live sessions only, not a recorded presenter file. Free excludes commercial use and Starter at $12 a month runs 1 session at a time, while a fourth simultaneous visitor on Explorer can be rejected. The clock runs by the second while a session is open, idle or not, and SDK sessions show no AI disclosure unless you switch it on.

  5. Symphony Creative Studio

With a TikTok for Business account, a voiceover avatar chosen from real-human or AI-generated presenters reads your typed script or uploaded audio, and a product avatar holds or shows a product from one uploaded image. Avatar videos, translate and dub and the editor draw no credits, so a TikTok cut of the example's product explainer costs nothing beyond the account.

Check first: Outputs may not run as ads on platforms other than TikTok unless TikTok expressly permits it, so the example's LinkedIn ad is out of scope, and every export carries an AI-generated label. Work happens on desktop, translate and dub is unavailable in Texas and Illinois, and you answer for consent from anyone whose face, voice or name appears.

  6. Dzine

Dzine animates a portrait or video you have rights to, driven by an uploaded recording or a typed script, and prices each 5-second clip by model. A 90-second talking clip is 18 clips: 108 credits with basic lip sync or 1,530 with Kling AI Avatar v2 Pro, which fits Creator's 6,000 monthly credits but not Beginner's 1,000.

Check first: It makes a talking clip, not a presenter you script again in an editor, and its profile documents no translation or LMS delivery. Free's 100 signup credits are for personal projects only; commercial use starts on Beginner at USD 8.99 per month billed monthly, and watermark and resolution depend on the feature and plan you pick.

Considered but not listed

  • Perso AI: Dubs videos you already filmed into other languages with optional lip sync, but generates no presenter; for a recorded speaker, its lip-sync minutes (2 on Starter, 13 on Creator, 60 on Pro) are the limit to check.
  • VEED: Lists AI avatars in a browser editor whose Gen-AI Studio builds short social videos from stock clips, but its profile gives no avatar library, avatar limits or credit cost per generation.
  • Descript: Spends AI credits on avatars inside a transcript-based editor, but its profile documents no avatar choice or consent rules, and timeline exports do not carry avatars.
  • Magic Hour: Lists talking photo, lip sync and AI avatars among 100+ tools, but its profile documents no presenter workflow, and free use is personal and non-commercial.
  • Avaturn: Turns a selfie into a rigged 3D avatar exported as a GLB file for games, apps and VTubing; it does not render presenter videos.
  • Fliz: Builds narrated videos from images, voice and subtitles, and its own AI video maker page says it has no avatars or talking heads.

What to compare for this task

These questions keep the shortlist tied to the work instead of turning it into a generic feature list.

Recorded or live

A recorded presenter video is billed in credits or plan minutes per finished minute; a live avatar that answers visitors is billed by open session time and capped by simultaneous sessions. Price each part in its own unit.

Whose face, which license

Stock avatar, your own twin or one portrait: check the consent step for a real person and whether the plan's license covers commercial use and paid ads, not only organic posts.

Languages and what gets translated

New speech in another language, dubbing of a finished video, or a rebuilt translated video: check lip sync, on-screen text and the longest source a translation job accepts.

Where the video has to play

MP4 download, SCORM package for a learning platform, hosted share page or embed, or a live widget on a website: the plan decides resolution, watermark and format.

One fixed task to compare them

Proposed evaluation, not performed: run the same input through two or three shortlisted tools and judge each against the same acceptance line. We have not run it; results depend on your plan and account.

Sample input

One month for a company's communications team: a 4-minute English HR policy video for the learning platform, the same video in Spanish and German (8 translated minutes), a 90-second product explainer that will also run as a paid LinkedIn ad, and a live avatar host answering visitor questions on a virtual event page for one afternoon, about 150 conversation minutes with up to 3 visitors at once. The presenter is a stock avatar or one employee who agrees in writing; nobody else's likeness is used.

Steps

  1. Split the month into recorded minutes (5.5 new and 8 translated) and live session minutes (150, with 3 at once), and price each part in the unit the tool bills: credits per minute, plan minutes, or session minutes plus simultaneous sessions.
  2. Apply the load: about 219 HeyGen Creator credits for the recorded part, 5.5 minutes inside Synthesia's 10 included plus 640 Starter credits for dubbing, 13.5 of D-ID Pro's 15 minutes, and Anam Explorer for the live host because Starter runs one session at a time.
  3. Decide whose face it is. For the employee's own avatar, have that person record the provider's consent step, such as HeyGen's consent video read in under 30 seconds, and keep the written agreement with the files.
  4. Check the paid ad separately: Synthesia's stock avatars are barred from paid promotion while a custom avatar follows your agreement with the person, TikTok Symphony outputs stay on TikTok, and Free or trial plans that exclude commercial use are out.
  5. Check delivery: an MP4 download or a SCORM package for the learning platform, on-screen text in each language, and an AI disclosure on the live event page.
  6. Generate the English module first, review the two translations with a fluent reader for names, numbers and negations, then publish.
Passes if
The recorded minutes fit one plan in that tool's unit with a download format the learning platform accepts, both translations read correctly with on-screen text handled, the ad runs under a license that allows paid placement, the live host stays inside its plan's session and simultaneous-session limits, and the employee's consent is on file.
Fails if
A stock avatar ends up in the paid ad, a free or trial plan is used for commercial output, dubbing is billed at the higher lip-sync rate and the credits run out, the translated video keeps English on-screen text, or a fourth visitor is turned away from the live host.

Questions about avatar videos with AI

Can an AI avatar host a live webinar or virtual event?

Only some can talk back. Anam runs live conversations embedded on your own page and bills each open session by the second, and D-ID's Advanced plan includes 10 agentic videos with an agent that answers viewer questions. None of the six profiles documents an avatar joining Zoom or Teams as a participant, so the usual route there is a pre-recorded avatar segment played during the session.

Which AI avatar tools work for digital signage?

No profile here documents a signage player or a looping license, so plan on downloading an MP4 and loading it into your screen system. That rules out Synthesia Basic, which cannot download, and HeyGen Free, which shares at 720p with a watermark; HeyGen's 4K needs Pro and 4K avatar footage. An interactive kiosk is a live session instead, billed for as long as it stays open.

Can I make an avatar of myself for influencer content?

Yes, with your own consent on record. HeyGen asks for a consent video from the person in every video-based Digital Twin, and someone else's twin needs their own recording. Synthesia makes personal avatars from one photo or a video on Starter and above, three on Starter and five on Pro. D-ID allows one personal avatar on the trial and three on Pro.

Can AI avatar videos run as paid ads?

It depends on the avatar and the plan. Synthesia allows stock avatars on organic TikTok, YouTube and Instagram posts but not in any paid promotion, while a custom avatar follows your agreement with the person shown. TikTok Symphony outputs may run as ads on TikTok only. D-ID licenses commercial use from Pro, and Anam Free and Dzine Free exclude commercial use.

How do I make an AI training video in several languages?

Pick the translation route first. HeyGen translates finished videos into 175+ languages on paid plans, with jobs up to 30 minutes on Creator and Pro. Synthesia's one-click translation, which rebuilds the video with a multilingual player in 80+ languages, needs Enterprise. D-ID translates videos up to 5 minutes below Enterprise, and TikTok Symphony's lip sync fails with several speakers or covered mouths.

Which AI avatar platforms suit a large enterprise?

Look at identity, data and delivery terms rather than avatar count. HeyGen puts SSO on Business and SCIM provisioning on Enterprise; Synthesia and D-ID keep SAML/SSO on Enterprise, where Synthesia also has unlimited video minutes. Anam's Enterprise plan adds region selection, data residency and Zero Data Retention; without it, session recordings can be kept for up to 30 days.
