Decide whether AI help is allowed before you pay

ParakeetAI’s own pages describe a tool that listens to a call and surfaces suggested answers while you talk. Its Terms say the user alone is responsible for laws on recording and consent, and for any notice, disclosure or permission that an employer, institution or platform requires before AI assists in a conversation, meeting, interview or examination. They also say the company does not endorse unlawful or unethical use. So the first buying question is not price: it is whether the call you have in mind permits an AI assistant at all, and whether the other people need to be told.

Work out what a call really costs

The pricing section sells time in three ways: prepaid credits, unlimited plans billed weekly, monthly or yearly, and a Custom plan for the Prepare tools only. The Custom plan leaves calls and mock interviews on credits, so it does not make live calls cheaper. The billing FAQ explains that a session is billed in 30-minute blocks of 0.5 credit and renews itself for another block when the timer reaches zero, unless you switch Auto Extend off for that session. Credits are taken when the call tab or microphone is captured, and the FAQ says they never expire.

That block rule matters for long meetings: a call that runs 31 minutes starts a second block, and the FAQ does not say whether a partial block is prorated. Plan for whole blocks until you have seen your own billing page.

Check the free sessions against your real setup

The free allowance is 10 sessions of up to 10 minutes. Use them to check what the plan cannot show: whether your browser or desktop app can capture the call tab, whether your language is supported (the site lists more than 50, one at a time per session), and whether the suggestions are useful for your kind of call.

Run a short check before buying a block

Proposed evaluation, not performed: play a public recorded talk in one tab and join it as a session with a short fictional brief uploaded as the document. Do not use a real employer call, a real interview or any recording of other people.

  1. Write five questions you expect from the talk before starting, and note the exact tab and browser used.
  2. Start a free session, play the recording and watch whether the transcript matches what is said, including names and numbers.
  3. Ask for an answer to each question and compare it with your brief. Mark any statement the brief does not support.
  4. Stop at the 10-minute limit and note what happens, then open the billing page to confirm no credits were used.
  5. Decide from the notes whether the transcript and answers justify a paid block, and which of credits or an unlimited plan fits your call hours.

A completed run gives you a list of observed transcript errors and unsupported answers. It does not show how the tool behaves on a different call platform, language or microphone setup.

Is ParakeetAI worth it?

Documentation review plus dated public user reports. Documentation review, not tested hands-on. Not scored.

Worth it if

  • You take calls only now and then and would rather prepay than subscribe, since credit packs do not expire.
  • Your employer or client allows AI help on calls and you want suggested answers drawn from your own brief, with a Gemini, GPT or Claude model chosen per session.
  • You expect more than about 7.6 hours of calls a month, where the $149.90 monthly plan starts to cost less than buying 3-credit packs.

Probably not if

  • You want help in an interview, exam or meeting where AI assistance is banned or must be disclosed, because the Terms leave that compliance entirely to you.
  • You mostly join calls from a phone app, because live sessions need desktop Chrome or the Windows or macOS app.
  • You hope to get money back for leftover credits, because refunds cover only unused purchases within 7 days.

Frequently asked questions

Is ParakeetAI free?

Partly. The billing FAQ gives 10 free sessions of up to 10 minutes each, and you can start another every 12 minutes; the first mock interview is also free. Full-length calls need prepaid credits or an unlimited plan, and the free sessions are a trial of the call assistant, not a monthly allowance.

Is ParakeetAI detectable?

We found no detectability claim on the pricing page, billing FAQ or Terms, and we have not tested it. The Terms say you alone are responsible for any notice, disclosure or consent that law, an employer, school or platform requires before AI assists in a call, interview or exam, and that unethical use breaches them.

Can I get a refund?

Within 7 days of purchase, only if nothing from it has been used; a call session or any paid feature counts as use. There are no partial refunds for remaining credits, and the Terms limit this to one refund per person, not per account. Contact support if an automatic refund is refused for an unused purchase.

Does ParakeetAI work on a phone or in any browser?

Live sessions run in desktop Chrome or in the Windows and macOS desktop app. The FAQ says a native mobile app is coming but was not available, though the mobile-optimized site works in a browser, and phone calls are supported over Google Voice using the browser's phone setup.
