AI tools for music generation
You want a finished song with vocals, the lyrics written or set for you, or an instrumental bed for a video. Which AI music generators write the words, which only sing yours, and on which plan may you publish the result?
Which tool fits, in short?
Pick by where the words come from and what you may do with the song. Suno writes lyrics from a description or sings yours, and commercial use rides on paid downloads. MusicHero.ai has a separate lyrics generator, but commercial rights need yearly billing. Treblo, formerly Sonauto, makes unlimited free songs under terms that let it train on your lyrics. Google Flow Music edits lyrics section by section. Musicfy centres on voice conversion, and Soundful makes instrumentals only.
This is a source-led shortlist, not a performance ranking. Open each profile for the provider source, check dates and plan conditions.

How each option fits music generation
Each note comes from the tool's source-checked profile. The condition line is what to confirm before you rely on it for this task.
Suno
Describe a song and Create writes the lyrics and builds a full track with vocals, or paste your own words in Custom mode; one generation runs up to 8 minutes. Pro and Premier add Replace Section, which changes the lyrics of one highlighted part without regenerating the rest.
Check first: Free gives 50 credits a day, about 10 songs, for personal, non-commercial use with no monthly downloads. Pro, EUR 7.20 per month billed yearly (EUR 9 billed monthly) on the page read from Germany, allows 20 downloads a month with commercial rights, and songs made on Free stay personal-use after you subscribe.
Treblo
Formerly Sonauto: a prompt or your own lyrics becomes a full song with vocals, steered by a few of 4,160 style tags, and the editor regenerates, extends or swaps the lyrics of a section. The consumer app is free with unlimited songs on Melodia v3 and downloads in OGG, MP3, WAV, FLAC and M4A.
Check first: The terms license your prompts, lyrics and outputs to improve Treblo models, and posting a song publicly grants a perpetual license that includes commercial and advertising use. Vocals in non-Latin scripts such as Japanese, Korean or Arabic may be mispronounced, and no separate lyrics writer is documented.
Google Flow Music
A chat-based Producer writes and arranges a song with vocals from text, an image or audio; Compose lets you change the lyrics and generate again, and section editing rewrites or translates the lyrics of one part. The Free column ticks mp3, wav, m4a and stem downloads.
Check first: Free runs on daily top-up credits with no published amount; Starter is $8 per month, billed monthly (or $6 per month billed yearly) for 3,000 credits, about 600 songs by the provider's estimate. You must be 18 or older, age-verified and in a supported region, and the plan pages give no commercial licence terms.
MusicHero.ai
A separate AI lyrics generator writes song lyrics, and songs come from a description or your own lyrics, with an instrumental mode, extension from any timestamp and MP4 lyric videos on Pro. Free gives 20 credits a day at 5 credits a song.
Check first: Free songs are public, kept 7 days and limited to personal use, and each Create returns two versions, so budget per run. Pro is $9.99 per month, billed monthly (or $7.99 per month, billed yearly), and the pricing cards tick the commercial license only on yearly billing.
Musicfy
Text to music generates songs and instrumentals from a written prompt, and the same account converts an uploaded vocal into Musicfy or community voices, or into a custom voice trained on your own recordings, for a demo sung in another voice.
Check first: The pages read do not say what a free account includes, and Starter, shown at $8 per month billed annually at $95.99 a year, lists no Commercial License; that starts on Professional. Lyrics writing is not documented, and month-to-month prices were not visible.
Soundful
Builds instrumental background tracks and 30-second loops from genre templates, with unlimited generation on every plan and STEM packs with stems, MIDI and the mixed master on Pro. It covers a video bed that needs no singing.
Check first: The generator makes no vocals or lyrics: Soundful's own song page has you write lyrics, record or voice them elsewhere and combine them in an audio workstation. Free allows 1 MP3 a month under a personal license; Plus is $4.99 per user per month on annual billing (or $9.99 billed monthly).
Considered but not listed
- ElevenLabs: Lists music generation beside speech, but its profile gives no music limits per plan and notes that Eleven Music has its own license rules, so the song terms cannot be compared here.
- YesChat: Generates music with third-party models from one credit balance, but Free gives 60 one-time credits without a commercial license, and the profile documents no lyrics or song length.
- Freebeat: Builds music videos from an uploaded track or a Suno or Udio link; it does not compose the song.
- AudioShake: Separates finished songs into stems and aligns lyrics to existing audio; it does not compose music or write lyrics.
- Fadr: Splits songs into stems and builds remixes, and its plugins create instruments and drum kits from text, but it does not generate complete songs.

What to compare for this task
These questions keep the shortlist tied to the work instead of turning it into a generic feature list.
Where the words come from
Your own lyrics pasted in, lyrics written from a description, a separate lyrics tool, or no vocals at all: check before you plan a song with a chorus.
Rights by plan and billing period
Commercial use can depend on the tier, the billing period or a paid download, and songs made on a free plan usually stay personal.
Credits, downloads and storage
Count songs in the tool's own unit (credits per song, downloads per month, storage days) and count every version a run returns.
Editing after the first take
Replace a section, swap or translate the lyrics of one part, extend, or regenerate the whole song: the cheaper route depends on what the tool can edit.

One fixed task to compare them
Proposed evaluation, not performed: run the same input through two or three shortlisted tools and judge each against the same acceptance line. We have not run it; results depend on your plan and account.
Sample input
A month of music for one creator's monetized YouTube channel: three songs with English vocals (one on lyrics the creator wrote, a verse and a chorus; two from a written description, with the tool drafting the lyrics) and one 60-second instrumental bed for intros. Allow five attempts per track, 20 generations in all. Every kept track must download as MP3 or WAV and be cleared for monetized video on the plan it was made on, and its lyrics must be saved outside the tool.
Steps
- For each tool, write down the plan you are pricing and its unit: credits per song, songs per month, downloads per month or storage days. Suno, Google Flow Music and MusicHero.ai each work out to about 5 credits a song.
- Find where the words come from: your own lyrics in a field, lyrics written from a description, a separate lyrics tool, or no vocals at all. Soundful covers only the instrumental bed.
- Price the 20 generations: at 5 credits a song they use about 100 credits, or five days of MusicHero.ai Free at 20 a day, but free songs there are public and personal-use only. Count both versions where a run returns two.
- Read the rights terms for the exact plan and billing period you will generate on: Suno's paid downloads, MusicHero.ai's yearly billing, Musicfy's Professional tier, Soundful's license tiers and Treblo's terms.
- Generate the lyric-led song first, change one section's lyrics where the tool allows it, and copy the final lyrics into your own document.
- Download the four keepers and record the tool, plan, billing period and generation date next to each file.
- Passes if
- All four tracks are generated and downloaded on one plan whose rights terms cover monetized video, the lyrics of the three songs sit in your own document, and the plan and billing period are recorded for each file.
- Fails if
- The kept songs were made on a free or monthly tier without commercial rights, the download cap runs out before the fourth track, free songs expire before download, or the instrumental tool was assumed to sing.

Questions about music generation with AI
Can AI write song lyrics for free?
Yes, inside a song tool. MusicHero.ai's Free plan includes its lyrics tool, Suno's free plan writes lyrics from a description when you create a song, and Google Flow Music's Producer writes them on daily free credits. Suno and MusicHero.ai limit free songs to personal use, and MusicHero.ai's are public and kept 7 days. Copy lyrics you want to keep into your own file.
Who owns the lyrics I paste into an AI song tool?
Read each tool's terms. Suno's help center says you keep ownership and rights to original lyrics you enter, on any plan. Treblo's terms let it use your prompts, lyrics and outputs to improve its models, except through the API. MusicHero.ai flags lyrics naming well-known artists, brands or trademarked terms, so rewrite those lines before generating.
Can an AI song be sung in a language other than English?
Treblo sings languages written in the Latin alphabet and can mix languages in one song, but warns that Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Arabic, Russian or Hindi may be mispronounced. Google Flow Music can translate the lyrics of one section without regenerating the rest. The Suno, MusicHero.ai, Musicfy and Soundful profiles do not list vocal languages, so try a short clip first.
Is AI-generated music legal to use?
Using it is governed by each tool's terms, and they differ by plan. Suno's free songs are personal-use only and commercial rights come with Pro downloads; MusicHero.ai's commercial license is ticked only on yearly billing; Treblo's terms let it use your lyrics and outputs to improve its models. This page does not cover copyright law, so read the plan's terms and ask a lawyer before a commercial release.
Can I release an AI song on Spotify or other streaming services?
Only under the right plan. Suno lets you distribute songs downloaded while on Pro or Premier through a distributor you choose. MusicHero.ai's license covers yearly subscribers, and Soundful's Pro and Business plans add direct distribution to SoundCloud. Google Flow Music's plan pages give no distribution terms. Some distributors refuse songs that are not eligible for copyright.
What happened to Sonauto?
Sonauto changed its name to Treblo and moved to treblo.com, announced on June 3, 2026. The consumer app stays free with unlimited songs on the Melodia v3 model, and a separate developer API starts at $11 per month. Songs and terms now sit under Treblo, so read the current terms rather than older Sonauto pages.
