Free includes 10,000 monthly credits for noncommercial use with attribution; the isolator advertises up to 10 personal-use minutes. Which plan fits?

Smallest plan whose monthly credits cover your number with 15% spare for regenerations. Arithmetic from the plan table above, not a usage test.

How far does it go?

  • Creator in narration minutesText to speech uses 1 credit per character on the Multilingual v2 model, so 121,000 credits are 121,000 characters of script; the pricing table puts that at about 121 minutes of speech, or roughly twelve 10-minute voice-overs a month if nothing is regenerated.
  • Starter spent on transcriptionSpeech to text uses about 330 credits per minute, so Starter's 30,000 credits transcribe about 90 minutes of audio (30,000 / 330), leaving nothing for narration that month.
  • Dubbing on CreatorDubbing Studio without a watermark uses about 10,000 credits per minute, so 121,000 credits dub about 12 minutes of video (121,000 / 10,000); automatic dubbing without a watermark, at 3,000 per minute, stretches it to about 40 minutes.
  • Personal cleanup allowanceThe advertised 10-minute Free isolation allowance fits five 2-minute files (10 / 2 = 5) if the full allowance remains; other audio work and repeated processing reduce that headroom.

Text to speech in 74 languagesTurn a script into narration with library voices, voices made in Voice Design, or your own cloned voice on paid plans.Multilingual v2 uses 1 credit per character; the Flash and Turbo models cost 0.5 to 1 credit per character through the API.Every regeneration of a passage spends credits again, so heavily revised scripts cost more than their final length suggests.
Speech to text transcriptionTranscribe recordings into text from the same credit balance, at about 330 credits per minute of audio.—
Dubbing studio for moving recordings between languagesDub existing video or audio into another language, either in Dubbing Studio or as automatic dubbing.Dubbing draws on the shared credits: about 10,000 per minute in Dubbing Studio without a watermark, or 3,000 for automatic dubbing.A minute of Dubbing Studio output costs as much as about ten minutes of narration (10,000 / 1,000 credits).
Instant voice cloning (paid plans)Clone a voice from Starter up, after confirming that you have the right and consent to clone it.—
Professional voice cloning (Creator and above)Creator includes one professional voice clone; Starter offers instant cloning only.—

Which ElevenLabs plan fits your monthly audio?

Size the plan by finished minutes of narration, then add headroom for regenerations and for anything else drawn from the same pool. The pricing table equates each plan’s text-to-speech credits with roughly one minute of speech per 1,000 credits.

  • Free

for trying voices and for noncommercial projects under about 10 minutes of speech a month, published with attribution.

  • StarterUSD 5 per month

once audio is used commercially or you need instant voice cloning, up to about 30 minutes a month.

  • CreatorUSD 18.33 per month

for regular narration up to about two hours a month, or when you need a professional voice clone.

  • ProUSD 82.50 per month

for about 10 hours a month (600,000 credits), or when an API workflow needs 44.1kHz PCM output.

  • ScaleUSD 249.17 per month

($299 a month, 1.8M credits) when three people need shared workspace seats.

  • BusinessUSD 825 per month

for about 100 hours of speech a month (6M credits), or when up to ten people and ten professional voice clones share one workspace; Enterprise once you need custom SSO, contract SLAs or a HIPAA BAA.

Transcription and especially dubbing use credits far faster than narration, so a dubbing-heavy project can need a tier or two above what its narration alone suggests. Annual billing charges ten months for a year, so Pro drops to $82.50 a month from $99. If the picture matters more than the sound, see the Runway profile; the audio and voice category lists other voice options.

What happens to unused credits?

On a paid plan, unused credits roll over for up to two months, so the balance can reach three times the monthly quota. Rollover does not apply to Free, and downgrading or cancelling forfeits unused credits at the end of the billing cycle; upgrading carries the unused quota into the new plan.

Pay As You Go credits are separate: you can prepay without a subscription or top up when the monthly credits run out. They are stored as a dollar value and converted at your current plan’s rate, so changing plans can change how many credits that balance buys.

Does upgrading change the rights to older audio?

No. Rights follow the plan in effect when the audio was generated. Free-generated audio is for noncommercial use with attribution, and buying a paid plan later does not change it. Audio generated on a paid plan comes with commercial rights, subject to the terms, the rights to your source material and exclusions such as beta features. Keep the generation date and the license terms with each project.

Can Voice Isolator clean a recording and deliver a file?

Voice Isolator works on an existing recording: upload an audio file or record through your microphone, run isolation, then play or download the new audio. It accepts files up to 500 MB and one hour; both limits matter before uploading a long interview. Keep the original alongside the processed file so you can compare quieter words and breaths.

The feature page advertises 10 minutes on Free for personal use and lists commercial use from Starter. That makes Free suitable for a short personal cleanup check, while a client deliverable needs the applicable paid rights and permission for the source recording. The web allowance is not a separate pool on top of your other audio usage.

When is voice isolation the wrong cleanup target?

The provider says this model is not optimized for extracting sung vocals from music. For an interview, judge whether the words remain intact rather than treating a quieter background as success; a missing consonant can make the result less useful. Website and API pricing are documented separately, so check the applicable rate before automating a batch.

How can you evaluate narration and cleanup before paying?

Proposed evaluation · not performed yet

Use a Free account with remaining credits for two small checks: generate the script below, then record yourself reading it over ordinary room noise and use Voice Isolator on that recording. Keep the cleanup sample under two minutes and 500 MB; use only your own voice and material.

“Our Tuesday session starts at 9:45, runs for 2 hours, and costs 149 euros per person. Dr. Joaquín Ferreira leads it. Registration closes on the 3rd of March — after that, the waitlist opens.”

Download the cleaned recording and reopen it outside the app. Accept the cleanup only if every number and word remains audible, the complete clip plays, and the noise reduction helps; reject missing syllables or altered meaning. For the generated narration, check pronunciation and pauses separately. Stop if credits or download access are unavailable, and keep Free output noncommercial. You can put two voice tools side by side, and our editorial policy explains how profiles are checked and corrected.

Is ElevenLabs worth it?

Documentation review plus dated public user reports. Documentation review, not tested hands-on. Not scored.

Worth it if

  • You publish narration commercially, since free-generated audio stays noncommercial even after a later upgrade.
  • Your scripts arrive steadily each month, so the credit pool gets used and rollover absorbs an occasional slower month.
  • You need a cloned voice for recurring content; instant cloning starts at Starter and professional cloning at Creator.

Probably not if

  • You only need occasional personal narration that fits the free monthly allowance and can carry attribution.
  • You mainly dub long recordings on a small plan, since dubbing uses credits far faster than narration.
  • You expect to downgrade or pause soon; unused subscription credits are lost when that change takes effect.

What users report

  • A voiceover artist describes a productive first two days and says tidying scripts for pauses and punctuation before generating meant fewer wasted credits. Reddit r/ElevenLabs,
  • A subscriber who rarely used the account questions losing unused credits; several replies share the frustration, while one explains why providers expire credits. Reddit r/ElevenLabs,
  • A user reports saved credits were wiped after downgrading at renewal; commenters point out the help center states this and suggest waiting for the cycle to end. Reddit r/ElevenLabs,

Known issues from the provider

  • Downgrades and cancellations take effect at the end of the billing cycle, and any unused subscription credits are lost at that point; upgrades carry unused credits forward. ElevenLabs Help Center,

Frequently asked questions

Is ElevenLabs free?

Yes. Creative Free needs no payment and gives 10,000 credits a month, about 10 minutes of text to speech, for noncommercial use with attribution. The cheapest paid plan, Starter, costs $6 a month or $5 billed yearly and adds 30,000 monthly credits, a commercial license, instant voice cloning and 20 Studio projects instead of three. Free credits do not roll over.

What is the cheapest ElevenLabs subscription?

Starter is the cheapest paid plan at $6 a month, or $5 a month billed yearly. It adds 30,000 monthly credits, a commercial license and instant voice cloning. Creative Free costs nothing and gives 10,000 credits a month, but its audio is noncommercial and needs attribution when published. Check the pricing page before buying, since plans can change.

Is there a cheaper way to generate speech through the API?

Yes. The Multilingual v2 model costs 1 credit per character, but the V2 Flash and Turbo English models and the V2.5 Flash and Turbo Multilingual models are discounted for API use, at between 0.5 and 1 credit per character. For long scripts where latency or cost matters more than the richest delivery, that can up to double the speech a plan produces.

Can I use the audio commercially?

Yes, for audio generated while on a paid subscription, subject to the terms of service, the rights to anything you upload and exclusions such as beta services. The Eleven Rights help article covers how to credit ElevenLabs when you publish free-generated speech, and it notes that music generated with Eleven Music has its own license rules, separate from speech.

What is the difference between Starter and Creator?

Beyond the jump from 30,000 to 121,000 credits, Starter gives 10 custom voice slots and instant cloning, while Creator gives 30 slots, one professional voice clone and 5 concurrent requests instead of 3. Creator's first month is half price, so budget the recurring rate when comparing them.

How many languages does ElevenLabs speak?

The pricing comparison table lists 74 languages for text to speech on every plan, including Free. Because dubbing and transcription draw on the same credit pool, a project that moves a recording into several of those languages spends credits once for every target language.

Is voice cloning allowed?

Yes, on paid plans, but cloning a real person's voice requires their consent, and both the platform's terms and your local law apply. Before a cloned voice is saved, the Instant Voice Cloning guide asks you to confirm that you have the right and consent to clone it. Treat this as part of the job, especially for anyone identifiable.
