Strengths, limits and who it suits, in full

Strengths

  • Genuinely usable free tier Basic has no split count limit and includes MIDI, key, tempo and chord detection.
  • Low flat subscription Plus is a single $10 monthly plan with all plugins and unlimited storage.
  • Refund on the latest payment The Plus FAQ offers a no-questions refund of the most recent payment, with an extensive-use exception.

Limits

  • Rights are your responsibility The terms require you not to infringe copyright; splitting a commercial song gives you no right to release the parts.
  • Broad license over submissions The terms grant Pebble a perpetual, transferable license to contributions you submit to the site.
  • Old legal pages The terms date from September 5, 2023 and the privacy policy from September 4, 2023; neither addresses uploaded audio specifically.

Who it suits

  • Musicians learning parts muting one stem and reading the detected chords suits practising along to a song you own.
  • Producers and remixers Plus is the relevant tier for WAV stems and kick or snare separation, provided the source song is cleared.
  • DJs building edits DJ mode and stems help prepare private sets; public release still needs rights from the rights holders.
  • Developers adding stem separation the API suits low-volume batch jobs, since the first $10 of usage each month is covered by Plus.

How much does Fadr cost?

Prices confirmed · checked

Regional prices: Prices are in USD; the terms say sales tax is added where required, and cards and PayPal are accepted.

A site banner advertises 50% off Fadr Plus, but the public plan table still lists $10 a month or $100 a year and no discounted amount is shown before sign-in, so no promotional price is given here. The /plus comparison table also shows $19.99 and $29.99; those are other services' prices, not Fadr's.

  • API credit in minutes of audioPlus adds up to $10 of API credit per renewal and the stem task costs $0.05 per minute: $10 ÷ $0.05 = 200 minutes of audio before usage bills to the balance. Yearly against monthly: 12 × $10 = $120 versus $100 a year, so $20 less over twelve months.

What does Fadr Basic let you do for free?

Fadr Basic is described as free for life, with unlimited stems, remixes and DJ sets. Each upload is split into vocals, melodies, drums and bass, and the Stems page also detects key and tempo, follows the chord progression and exports MIDI. Downloads on Basic are high-quality MP3; lossless WAV is a Plus feature.

The main free limit is length. The Plus page says Plus raises the song upload limit from 10 minutes to 1 hour, so a long DJ mix or a live recording will not fit on Basic. The stems guide accepts WAV, MP3, M4A, AAC, AIF and FLAC files under 200 MB each, and several files can be dropped at once.

Which stems and features need Fadr Plus?

The Basic split is four broad stems. Plus switches to the Pro Stems model and adds finer separation, which matters when only one part of a group is needed, such as a snare for a sample or backing vocals for a mashup:

  • Vocals: separate lead and background vocal stems.
  • Drums: kick, snare and the rest of the kit as separate files.
  • Melodies: piano, acoustic and electric guitar, strings, wind and other melodies.
  • Delivery: 32-bit WAV downloads, uploads up to 1 hour, concurrent stems and unlimited storage.

What does the 50% off banner mean for the price you pay?

Every page carries a “50% Off Fadr Plus” banner, but the plan table and the pricing FAQ both state $10 a month or $100 a year, and no reduced amount is visible before signing in. Treat any discount as a promotion shown at checkout, not as the standing price, and check the total before paying.

The Plus page also includes a comparison table with prices of $19.99 and $29.99 a month. Those figures belong to other stem services in that table, not to Fadr. Billing is recurring until you cancel, and the terms say a cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid term.

Can you use stems from a copyrighted song?

Separating a song does not change who owns it. The terms require that anything you submit does not infringe copyright or other rights, and that you hold the licenses needed for it. Stems from a commercial release are fine for private practice, transcription or study, but releasing a remix, sample or instrumental normally needs permission from the rights holders.

The same terms give Pebble a perpetual, transferable and sublicensable license to contributions submitted to the site, a clause written broadly enough to raise questions for unreleased material. For your own unreleased masters, keep a copy of the original and check with Fadr how uploads are stored before relying on the web app.

How do the DAW plugins work, and what happens after you cancel?

The Stems Plugin runs on Mac as VST3 or AU and on Windows as VST3. It has three modes: Live Mode stems audio as it plays, Record Mode records a timeline and runs the best model, and Upload Mode lets you drag audio in and stems out. Separation happens in the cloud, then stems are mixed in the plugin window.

Stems made with the plugin are saved locally and are not lost if Plus is cancelled, but making new stems needs an active subscription. Siren and DrumGPT are separate Plus plugins that create playable instruments and drum kits from text prompts.

How is the stem-separation API billed?

API use requires Fadr Plus. The only paid endpoint, Create Stem Task, costs US$0.05 per minute of audio and returns vocals, drums, bass, melodies and instrumental stems, MIDI for vocals, drums and bass, the chord progression, key and tempo. The detailed Plus stems are not listed for the API.

Each Plus renewal adds up to $10 of API credit, capped at $10, and usage beyond that accrues to a balance. The account is charged when the balance passes a billing threshold that starts at $10 and rises with use, or at renewal if the balance is above $1.

Can the free plan produce a clean instrumental from a song you own?

Proposed evaluation · not performed yet

On Fadr Basic, upload a 4-minute original recording you own, with lead vocal, acoustic guitar, bass and a programmed drum part. Aim for an instrumental MP3 plus a vocal-only MP3 that can be lined up in a DAW. No Plus features or WAV files are used.

  1. Record the file type, length and size before upload.
  2. Upload the song and wait for stems, key, tempo and MIDI.
  3. Download the vocal stem and the other three stems as MP3.
  4. Import them into a DAW at the original tempo and compare with the session stems you already have.
  5. Listen for vocal bleed in the instrumental and guitar bleed in the vocal, and check the detected key and tempo.

Accept an instrumental with no audible lead vocal in the chorus and a detected tempo within 1 BPM of the session. Reject missing sections, audible artefacts across whole bars or a key off by more than a semitone. No result is reported until the exercise is run.

To clean speech in a podcast or voice-over rather than split music, compare Adobe Podcast and Auphonic. To edit a recording by its transcript after separating a voice, see Descript.

Is Fadr worth it?

Documentation review plus dated public user reports. Documentation review, not tested hands-on. Not scored.

Worth it if

  • You want to split songs you own into vocals, drums, bass and melodies for practice or private edits, because Basic has no split count limit and includes MIDI, key and tempo detection.
  • You need kick and snare, lead and background vocals or WAV files, since those come with the single flat Plus plan rather than a tiered ladder.

Probably not if

  • Your source files run longer than 10 minutes and you want to stay free, because Basic stops at that length and the hour-long limit is a Plus feature.
  • You plan to release remixes or samples of commercial songs, because the terms leave rights clearance with you and splitting a track does not grant it.
  • You expect the API to return the same detailed stems as the web app, because the API docs list only the five primary stems plus MIDI, chords, key and tempo.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get a refund on Fadr Plus?

The Plus FAQ says that if you are not fully satisfied, Fadr will refund your most recent payment with no questions asked. It also reserves the right to refuse a refund if Plus has been used extensively. Request it soon after the charge and before running large batches, and cancel on the Subscription tab so the plan does not renew.

Who runs Fadr, and which law applies to the service?

The terms and privacy policy name Pebble LLC, doing business as Fadr, registered in Virginia with an office in Fairfax Station. Virginia law governs the terms, and disputes go to state and federal courts in Fairfax County. Support is through the contact form or contact@fadr.com, with Instagram messages as a fallback.

Is Siren the same plugin as SynthGPT?

Fadr now markets Siren as a Plus plugin that creates playable instruments from words, while the blog and help center still document SynthGPT versions from 2024 and 2025. The documentation menu links Siren to the SynthGPT plugin page, which suggests a rename, but Fadr does not state that directly. Check the plugin version inside your DAW.

Does the API return the same detailed stems as the web app on Plus?

Not according to the API docs. A stem task returns the five primary stems, vocals, drums, bass, melodies and instrumental, plus MIDI, chords, key and tempo. Lead and background vocals, kick and snare, and individual melody instruments are listed for the web app and plugin, not for the API.

Can I upload several songs at once on the free plan?

Yes. The stems guide says you can drag in as many files as you want at once, as long as each is under 200 MB and in WAV, MP3, M4A, AAC, AIF or FLAC format. Plus lists concurrent stems as a feature, so large batches are likely to finish faster on the paid plan.
