ElevenLabs and Murf turn scripts into voiceovers, and ElevenLabs also transcribes, dubs and clones voices from one monthly credit pool. Adobe Podcast and Auphonic work on existing recordings: Adobe Podcast removes noise and echo in the browser, and Auphonic levels speakers and hits loudness targets automatically. All four have free plans, but free ElevenLabs audio is noncommercial and free Murf audio cannot be downloaded.

UniScribe is an AI transcription web app that turns uploaded audio, video and YouTube links into exportable transcripts, subtitles and summaries.
Krisp is a desktop voice AI app that removes call background noise and takes bot-free meeting transcripts, notes and recordings.
TTSMaker turns scripts into downloadable speech, with a free web allowance and separate limits for longer scripts and API access.
Auphonic is a web service that levels, denoises and loudness-normalizes recorded speech automatically, billed by hours of audio processed.
Murf is a text-to-speech studio that turns scripts into AI voiceovers synced with video, music and slides, metered in minutes of generated speech.
Start by naming the job. If the words exist only as a script, you need voice generation: ElevenLabs and Murf read text aloud in a chosen voice, and Murf Studio syncs the voiceover with images, video and music for e-learning and presentations. If someone has already spoken them, you need cleanup and finishing. Adobe Podcast's Enhance Speech strips background noise and echo in the browser, and its Podcast Studio records remote guests on separate tracks and edits them through the transcript. Auphonic takes a finished recording and levels speakers, reduces noise and reverb, cuts filler words and meets loudness targets such as -16 LUFS or EBU R128.
Each side meters differently. Voice generators charge for what they produce. ElevenLabs narration on Multilingual v2 costs 1 credit per character, about one minute of speech per 1,000 credits, while transcription uses about 330 credits a minute and Dubbing Studio about 10,000, so Creator's 121,000 credits buy about 121 minutes of narration or about 12 minutes of studio dubbing. For API work, the Flash and Turbo models cost between 0.5 and 1 credit per character. Murf sells voice time instead: Creator's 2 hours a month on monthly billing cover about 20 scripts of 1,000 words. Cleanup tools charge for what you send in. Auphonic counts hours of processed audio and bills every production for at least 3 minutes, and Adobe Podcast caps Enhance Speech at 1 hour a day on Free and 4 hours a day with Firefly Pro.
Decide where generated audio will be published before you create it, because the license is fixed at that moment. ElevenLabs Free audio is for noncommercial use with attribution, and a paid plan bought later does not change the rights to anything already generated; audio made on Starter or higher carries commercial rights, with exclusions such as beta features and the rights to your source material. Murf Free cannot be downloaded and carries no commercial rights, which start on Creator. Voice cloning adds a consent question: the ElevenLabs cloning flow asks you to confirm you have the right to clone the voice, Murf arranges cloning only through its Enterprise team, and local law applies on top.
For generated voiceovers, read the ElevenLabs profile for plan credits, license rules and per-feature rates, and the Murf profile for narration time and the Canva and PowerPoint add-ons. For recordings you already have, the Adobe Podcast profile covers browser cleanup and remote recording, and the Auphonic profile covers automatic levelling, loudness targets and publishing. To edit a recorded podcast or interview by its transcript, see Descript in the video tools category. For script preparation, visit writing tools.

Task pages whose documented shortlist includes at least one tool from this category.
Our editorial judgement about what matters in this category, based on the plan structures we documented while building these profiles.
A voice generator if the words exist only on paper: ElevenLabs or Murf reads them aloud. A cleanup tool if someone already recorded them: Adobe Podcast's Enhance Speech removes noise and echo, and Auphonic levels speakers, cuts filler words and meets a loudness target. Auphonic and Adobe Podcast also transcribe, Auphonic on paid credits only.
Only audio generated while on a plan that grants commercial rights. ElevenLabs grants them from Starter, USD 5 a month billed annually or USD 6 monthly, and Murf from Creator, USD 19 a month billed annually or USD 29 monthly. ElevenLabs Free audio can be shared noncommercially with attribution, and Murf Free audio cannot be downloaded at all.
At ElevenLabs' guide of about one minute per 1,000 credits, Free covers about 10 minutes a month, Starter about 30, Creator about 121 and Pro about 600, assuming nothing is regenerated. Murf Creator includes 2 hours a month on monthly billing or 24 hours a year on annual billing, and Business 8 hours a month or 96 a year.
Auphonic Free processes 2 hours a month, enough for two 45-minute episodes, and adds a jingle. Adobe Podcast Free enhances up to 1 hour a day in files of up to 30 minutes and 500 MB. On paid plans, Auphonic S processes 9 hours a month for USD 11 billed yearly, and Firefly Pro raises Enhance Speech to 4 hours a day.
Cloning a real person's voice requires their consent, and both the platform's terms and your local law apply. ElevenLabs offers cloning only on paid plans and asks you to confirm the right and consent before an instant clone is saved; Murf handles cloning through its Enterprise team and documents it for English, Spanish, Portuguese, French and German.
